Phytochemical screening and isolation of saponin from the leaves of Weigelaflorida (Bunge) A. DC

Species of the Weigela genus, Caprifoliaceae family, are currently used in folk medicine, specifically Asia. Chemical compounds extracted from species this plant genus have many strong biological activities such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-complementary, immune and cytotoxicity on some cancer cell lines. A qualitative study chemical composition leaves W. florida (Bunge) A. DC led to an identification flavonoid, tannin, terpenoid triterpenoid saponin, whereas cardiac glycoside, alkaloid steroid were found be absent. Total saponin content was quantified 2.66% (wt%) initial sample using chromatography method. diglycosidic hederagenin-type isolated different chromatographical methods, combination with 1D 2D spectroscopic methods mass spectroscopy (ESI-MS).
